The wellness world gets right on my nerves
Problematic really, seeing as though I guess I’m part of it and have been for many, many years. And, as a total juxtaposition, oxymoron, paradox… just to completely contradict myself (ah that's it - could not think of the word contradict), I absolutely bloody love keeping well, in body, mind and spirit. All of it.
I just really hate the term ‘wellness.’ Is it just me, or does it sound naff as?
I really hate the idealistic standards the word brings up for me. I hate that it seems like a whole other world simply by calling it the ‘wellness world’ - somehow inaccessible. And I hate that the minute anything seems like ‘wellness world,’ if you’re not ‘part of it’ already, you generally feel awkward even wanting to approach it or daring to dip your toe in…
When in actual fact, it’s not a different world at all. It shouldn’t have a title that separates it. It’s just things that humans have evolved to do for hundreds of thousands of years, put in a shiny boxes, given shiny labels, fancy terms, heavy price tags (sometimes) and generally encouraged to be performed wearing Lycra.
And so instead of seeming like something all humans naturally and instinctively would benefit from doing to feel better, it now feels like something you need a secret pass for… something you have to be able to do ‘right’ in order to be properly involved.
That’s what gets on my nerves.
Gosh. Not my usual positive angle! Well… actually, it is.
It’s the reason why I’m passionately conscious about trying to do things and bring things to you differently - in the way I understand them, in a way that truly makes sense to me.. . And therefore, hopefully you too. My aim is to hopefully cut through the wellness noise and actually make it relatable to you. Not something you feel you should be doing, but something that actually makes sense in your own body and your own life.
I’m very protective about all my messaging. Every piece of social media I put out, every article I write, every email I send, every message I respond to, every Instagram story post I press go on… it’s all just me, talking as ‘me,’ trying to cut through the wellness boll**ks and make it as accessible as possible to everyone who wants to improve their experience of life.
We are all human beings wanting to experience this life in the best way we can. And I really feel like, with all the good intentions in the wellness world - and trust me, there are SO many incredibly good, well-intentioned people doing life-changing things for others - we can just talk in a way that actually makes the penny drop.
Like, why do we suggest things like going for a walk - moving your body? Getting sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning? Not using your phone the second you wake up? It’s not just a set of arbitrary rules dictated to add to an already busy life - quite the opposite. When you understand why, it makes real sense. It connects the dots.
And for me personally, I’m a real ‘connector of the dots’ kinda gal. If I know something genuinely changes my life for the better - if I see it, feel it and experience it for myself in my own bodily sensations, in my own life - then I’m going to carry on doing it. Because if I feel better than I felt before… why wouldn’t I? Why wouldn’t you?
And I guess, as an extra reinforcer on that… when you’ve felt really properly sh*t at some point in your life, which many of us have - like I did with the years of anxiety and panic and living in unhappy relationships - you don’t ever want to feel that way again.
So taking those steps, experiencing the hugely life-transforming benefits on an personally experiential level, and then committing to the things that make you feel good? It doesn’t actually take as much effort as you’d think. It takes far less effort than day-to-day life used to when you were living it from that dark place.
And that’s the point, I guess. When we add in things that make us feel better, the whole of our life feels better. And suddenly, the effort we make starts going to the right things - the things that create incremental positive changes in our lives.
It really is that simple. (I didn’t say easy).
And you want to then just keep trying new bits. Some of them will make you feel even better—YES! And if we don’t try new things, how can we ever know what ‘even better’ feels like? (On that - if you do want to feel a little bit better every single day for just £5 month - you can join REGULATE: Nervous System Circle here!)
So I guess what I’m saying is… everything I deliver here is real life. Relatable, accessible, doable, developed to fit into a ‘normal’ busy life. It doesn’t require Lycra. It doesn’t require any fancy clothes, apparatus, masses of time or a specific type of person.
It just requires people who want to experience their lives, but better.
And if that’s you, you are in the right place.
Keep your eyes wide open this week - you’ll hear about something completely different I have bought to life for you, for us, in Sorrento.
This is not a retreat.
It’s something born out of a feeling I had when I first set foot there… something guaranteed to awaken deep feelings inside you, to bring you home to you, and will bring you home shifted for good...
YOU, feeling better than you’ve felt in years.
Have the best week ahead you bunch of gorgeous souls.
